The Principles of Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, Diploma Program

AEDP is an experiential psychotherapy based on affect transformation.

It uses the phenomenological model of the four states of emotion transformation researched by Dr. Diana Fosha PhD and her faculty at the AEDP Institute in New York.

This psychotherapy provides dyadic accompaniment and deep attachment repair for patients. It also monitors the tracking of emotions from moment to moment. It gently dissolves defences, and promotes people’s innate capacity to heal, and is undoubtedly one of the best integrated models of contemporary psychotherapy.

Training Description

Learning Goals:

  • Describe the experiential phenomenology approach in AEDP psychotherapy.
  • List the factors that are key to the process of emotional state change.
  • List the characteristics of the AEDP therapist that foster the therapeutic alliance.
  • Compare and contrast the AEDP model with other contemporary models of psychotherapy.
  • Discuss the role of emotions and patient-therapist interaction in building the secure base in psychotherapy
  • To evaluate the role of the effect of patients feeling seen and understood by their AEDP therapist in the neuroplasticity of affective change in sessions.

The following programme is designed to give psychotherapists a first theoretical, practical and experiential grounding in the model created by Diana Fosha, PhD and the faculty of the AEDP Institute in New York.
This training aims to provide an important foundation for those who wish to continue the study of this model.

This is a hybrid online, bilingual programme. It will be taught in English and simultaneous translation into Spanish will be provided. The materials will also be translated into Spanish.

Five didactic modules in hybrid format.
Each module contains:

  • A video class of approximately one hour (from 40 to 60 minutes each – with pre-recorded videos available in each student’s student panel on the Institute’s Virtual Campus).
  • An hour and a half practical class with live case presentation and question and answer session (1hr. with 30 mins each).
  • A Quizz for each module
  • PDF slides

Syllabus flow

In order to provide a balance between learning the theory and facilitating the understanding of how to put this psychotherapy into practice, we have designed the dynamics of the course in an incipient way as follows:

  • Interested students register and start watching the video of the first module one week before the live session. It has been calculated that participants can watch the video for one hour in the four days before the live session.
  • At the end of the module and the live session, they will take the knowledge test.
  • Participants are asked to complete one module at a time.
  • Upon completion of the five modules, the five sessions, and the knowledge test, participants will be able to download their certificate of completion.
